The Department of Social Work at Sarvodaya Shikshan Mandal's Sardar Patel College commenced in 1988. Initially, the department offered only an undergraduate program, but since 1992, a postgraduate program has also been available. The college has been affiliated with Gondwana University Gadchiroli since its inception in 2012 and is also recognized by the UGC New Delhi under sections 2(F) and 12(B). Additionally, the college has a recognized center for higher learning and research (Ph.D.).

Professional Social Work education in India has become a challenge and a highly scientific discipline due to the ever-increasing problems and developmental needs of the nation. Based on sound theoretical knowledge, well-developed techniques, and skills, our training aims to form committed and expert professionals in the field of Social Work. In 2007, the college moved to a new building on a sprawling 5-acre campus on the outskirts of the city.

As we stand on the threshold of a new academic session, I extend a hearty and warm welcome to all our students, staff, and parents. Each academic year marks a new height scaled and another dream realized, with new targets set for the future. Every member of this institution is devoted to turning dreams and aspirations into reality through sincerity and perseverance.

At Sushilabai Ramchandrarao Mamidwar College of Social Work, we always strive to maintain the highest quality in academic standards and provide the most conducive environment for our students' holistic growth and development. We aim to instil the core values of Respect, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence in our students so they can meet ever-changing global challenges. Our dedicated and highly qualified staffs’ serves as exemplary role models, thereby keeping the ethos of our college shining bright.

Currently, the institute offers undergraduate (BSW), postgraduate (MSW), and Ph.D. programs in the Social Work discipline. We are aligned with the implementation of the New Education Policy 2020, which caters to the needs of the new generation of students. We are the only Social Work College in Gondwana University to have been ranked 171 in the all-India National Institutional Ranking Framework under the ministry of education. We are currently accredited with grade “B” by NAAC in our second cycle and are gearing up for our third cycle assessment this year.

As the Principal of the institute, I assure newcomers that they will find a healthy learning environment here. Our society and institute are committed to quality education, and the graduates of this institute will acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to become competent professionals.
